Q: What is spinetoram?

Q: Why has my veterinarian recommended Cheristin for cats?

Your veterinarian has provided Cheristin for cats to kill fleas on your cat, to treat an existing infestation on your cat and/or to prevent future flea infestation.

Q: What should I discuss with my veterinarian regarding Cheristin for my cat?

Your veterinarian is your cat’s healthcare expert and can give the best advice for your pet. This includes how to prevent and treat parasites, such as fleas, and the health conditions they can cause. Key points for your discussion might include the following:

Q: Can other medications be given while I’m giving my pet Cheristin for cats?

Yes, but make sure your veterinarian is aware of all medications you intend to use on your cat.

Q: Can Cheristin for cats be used on dogs?

No. Cheristin for cats is not registered for use on dogs. Cheristin for cats was developed for use exclusively on cats.

There are other products that would be great choices for flea control in dogs.

Q: When should treatment with Cheristin for cats begin?

Treatment with Cheristin for cats may begin at any time of the year. Consult your veterinarian for the flea regimen most appropriate for your area. Read more about using Cheristin for cats.

Q: Does seeing fleas on my cat mean the flea treatment is not working?

Cheristin for cats kills fleas when used monthly and according to the label directions. Remember that all animals in the household should be treated with an approved flea product to help control the flea population. Because each female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day there is potential for a large buildup of eggs, larvae and pupae, resulting in a constant supply of new adults emerging in the cat’s environment2. (Learn more about the flea life cycle.)

Regardless of the product used to kill fleas, the cat can continue to be exposed to fleas living in the environment. When these fleas jump onto the cat, they will be killed quickly by Cheristin for cats.

If you see fleas on your cat within a month after your pet receives flea treatment with Cheristin for cats, it is most likely these are new fleas that have very recently emerged from pupae and jumped onto the cat. These new fleas will be killed quickly before they can produce eggs that contaminate the environment.

Consistent monthly application of Cheristin for cats should be maintained to provide continued protection for your cat against these fleas.

Q: How long does Cheristin for cats last?

Cheristin for cats has demonstrated efficacy for at least 30 days.

Q: Is Cheristin for cats available near me?

As with any product registered with EPA, individual states must review and register it. Find out if Cheristin for cats is available in your home state so you can ask your veterinarian for effective, long-lasting, easy-to-use flea protection for your cat.

Q: What potential side effects can be seen with Cheristin for cats use?

The most common side effects are application site reactions such as application site hair loss, hair change (greasy, clumping or matting) or redness, inflammation and itching. If these or any other side effects occur, consult your veterinarian, your cat’s healthcare expert. For technical assistance or to report a side effect, call Elanco at 1-888-545-5973.
